About Bihar India
Education opens up future perspectives - EAC supports the support association Schwester Modesta Hilfe Indien e.V.
Sister Modesta was born as Maria Bartl on 30.04.1912 in Wackersberg near Bad Tölz in Bavaria. In 1938 she made her first adventurous journey to India as a missionary sister. After working in various places, she was transferred in the 1970s to the village of Shahpur, in the state of Bihar in the north-east of India. Soon the missionary station there was expanded with a school and a small farm.
Today, Bihar is the poorest and at the same time one of the most unstable states of India, with a population of around 104 million. The number of inhabitants is increasing rapidly. Only about 63% of the inhabitants can read and write.
After Sister Modesta's death, the Sr. Modesta-Hilfe India support association was founded in Wackersberg in 2014. Currently the association supports 75 children with school fees, equipment and school uniforms. Children from poor families and villages are given the opportunity to attend a fully-fledged school. Education is the best way to break the cycle of day labourers later and to achieve more stable employment. The support of a child costs 130 € per year. Women are also taught how to sew. This is a first step towards their autonomy and independence. The association also supports needy families, sick children and TB patients.

Project examples
Social project
Since EAC has been supporting projects in India for many years and has had its own office in Mumbai since 2006, we would like to support social projects on site and help young people on their way to a better life. Here are a few examples of how little money can already make a big difference:
- 4€ costs a school bag...
- 25€ costs the training of a seamstress...
- For 80€ a new sewing machine can be purchased for the sewing project...
- Every donation goes directly to the monastery in India without loss!
